The experimental farms are the ones of the Center of Research and Technology Hellas, located in the cities of Volos and Thessaloniki. Robots, drones, sensors and Data loggers are made available and its crops are mainly cotton, pepper, apples and tomatos.
It belongs to the Institute for Bio-Economy and Agri-Technology (iBO), a non-profit research and technological development organisation, which from 2013 is one of the five Institutes of the Center for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH) administered by the Ministry of Education, Religions Affairs and Long Life Learning. The Institute was initially established in 2006 as a research center in the scientific areas of i) Mechatronics, ii) Agrotechnology, iii) Biomedicine, and iv) Kinesiology.
In the integration process within CERTH, iBO was redeployed generating a new identity oriented to the agri-technologies and bio-systems engineering scientific domains, by integrating the existing scientific niches and research units orchestrated towards one scope.
