A single and reliable source of agrofood traceability based on blockchain technology


In the Agrofood sector, the food traceability is usually incomplete and/or difficult to obtain due to the complexity of the food supply-chain, the large number of agents involved in it, and the resistance of many agents to share their data.

Anserlog propose a blockchain solution that can be used to verify traceability data, to simplify procedures between agents of the food supply-chain, and to facilitate auditability. The agents must be ratified as “authorized” before being able to store information in the blockchain and, in order to deal with the resistance to share data, only the hash value of the data is made public.

The solution’s structure also allows “non-authorized” agents to participate and maintain the blockchain system. This project socpe is to obtain a first software prototype of the solution, with basic storage, verification, and mining functionalities, and with a complete test suite to facilitate future developments.


Application Blockchain Technology in the agri-food industry


ALBOR aims the creation of a blockchain public-private network and its use to build, deploy and operate certification services and traceability of primary sector products through smart contracts on a public-private infrastructure managed by interested parties. Agricultural supply chains are risky and complex, lack traceability and the settlement of transactions is slow and often labour intensive.

Blockchain has the ability to reduce risk and increase efficiency in the agrofood industry by providing transparency and traceability and by eliminating intermediaries in agricultural value chains and providing a real opportunity for smallholders and SMEs to participate in the market. It is expected to design a platform which offers confidence to organizations, consumers and public administrations in a global supply chain through its immutable data history.

The Beef Analyser: Bio-impedance device for Predicting Beef Carcass Yield

The Beef Analyser is a practical response to the productivity, environmental and profitability challenges faced by the European beef industry.

The objective is to create an inexpensive robust handheld device that has built in bioimpedance technology can be used on the farm either regularity or at sporadic key points, that will help the farmer to identify the best time to sell their animal for maximum profit. It will enable farmers to identify more precise feeding and selling strategies that will increase productivity and profitability by reducing inefficiencies in feeding and judgement.

It will enable the European beef production system to use less inputs and respond more quickly to market and environmental changes, which in combination reduce GHG emissions and improve their sustainability.


New model of trap for the CapTrap service based on smart connected trap.

Cap2020’s CapTrap® service of smart connected trap has been successfully commercialized since 2017, and recently won silver prize at SIVAL (international innovation competition).

The connected trap consists of a smart sensor attached to a classical funnel trap. But the demand for pests that cannot be trapped in a funnel increase. That is why we started to work with grapevine moth on a vision-based trap.

We now need to extend our works to other pests and includes key innovations to ensure a perfect result

Cow Track

SiConsult already developed trackers for different activities: Beekeeping, railway equipment, etc… Now we consider transferring our technology to cattle management and in first approach activity cow tracking. We began need analysis and we obtained a first conclusion, the worst case for the producer is when the cow is lost (cow scared that run anywhere, valley swap, theft…) So before to imagine behaviour analysis, cattle producers would like to know cows locations from anywhere.

We have experience on it, but we know that all terrestrial communications (cellular, Sigfox, LoRa…) have uncovered area, especially in mountain landscape. DIVA project Cow Track plan to design prototype using satellite communication with main features below: – small form factor to be compatible with an usage “placed on cow”, – Affordable price (product and service less expensive than 2 times the equivalent cellular version) – low power: 1 year live time minimum


Farm monitoring and minimization of environment and health footprint


Ecoclimasol is implementing on its existing web platforms Climavista agro (for annual cereal crops) and Climavista wine (for grapevine) two tools developped by the IAMM (Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier): ETOPHY and ESSIMAGE.These tools enable users to know human health and environment impacts caused by the use of phytosanitary products and to calculate the footprint at farm level.

The DIVA Ecofarm project aims at :

1.Implementing the tools in a wider platform, Ecofarm, to address any type of crops and particularly vegetable production, orchards and polyculture, which are not covered by the existing platform

2.Re-shaping the existing platform in a new framework with a technological upgrade in order to allow a long-term and optimized development of the tools.

Potential users of EcoFarm are multiple: farmers, farmers and operators involved in DEPHY farms (network involved in plant phytosanitary products reduction), cooperative and experiment station operators.

Hydroponics and sustainable crops on rooftops of buildings in the city

METEORA is a project based on promoting sustainable crops on rooftops of buildings in the city with the aim of creating a new business model focused on a circular economy that will promote the concept of Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA). Production will be optimised through the use of hydroponics. This type of agriculture removes soil from the equation, with each plant housed in plastic containers where its fibrous roots are housed and fed by nutrient-enriched circulating tap water.

The main added value of METEORA solution is obtaining organic and seasonal food grown in a sustainable way. This will improve the carbon footprint of the city and the quality of life of their citizens. Also by means of an almost autonomous production of the crops and parameterized so that the crop is always in optimal conditions, we significantly reduce waste. To demostrate the viability of the system, a prototype will be deployed on the roof of a building owned by Cordoba City Council, who shows interest in the project as part of its strategy of converting the city to the GREEN concept. During the planned 9-months project duration, all activities necessary to properly complete the feasibility study and deployment of the prototype will be carried out.

The development of the proposed prototype, linked to the business model maturation study, will be enough to clarify if this project si viable in the target environment, considering the wather, social and real profit variables, whose impact measurement are key over viability. The alliance between NSS and Galpagro may mean a fruitful collaboration in an enabling environment (the regional, Andalusia, Spain, and European ones) to this kind of products. Precision Agriculture methods promise to increase the quantity and the quality of agricultural output while using less input such as water, fertilizer, energy, pesticides etc.

In order to enable future precision agriculture processes we propose to develop NYSA, a standalone monitoring, localization and 3D mapping system for precision agriculture. NYSA it’s the perfect device to adopt Precision Agriculture methods, even in small and medium farms, without continuously go to the expense of swapping the tractors or implements for a newer version.

Nowadays data management is a key process to create value inside a company. In order to achieve the best data and to use them as an added value for the company, we need to find out the best solutions in term of blockchain technology and softwares, and analyze them in term of costs and benefits.

The Prosecco Extreme Tracking project aims to use blockchain technology to build an owned repository of all the Prosecco Doc brands in order to give them the best solutions to promote themselves through this platform.

The project goal is also to analyze costs and benefits of blockchain integration in a B2C app, with image recognition and QR code reader as key features, and to validate and track the production and sales of the wine and guarantee the quality of the production chain.


Combining satellite imagery, artificial-intelligence technology and agronomic knowledge to monitor cotton development stages and conditions in challenging geographic areas

The launch of the Sentinel satellite family has increased the availability of data, especially in the imagery domain, at no or low cost to the users. Totake advantage of these data, we propose to experiment the combination of remote sensing data (satellite imagery) with machine learning methods and agronomic knowledge to provide a package of digital agricultural extension support to “smallholders”, in developing countries:

  • Identification of crops seeded on fields
  • Estimation of crops’growth stages (emergence specially)
  • Monitoring of cropping activities
  • Dissemination of timely, localized and individualized agronomic recommendations
  • Verification of crop lands usage
  • Verification of information provided by remote smallholder farmers about crops seeded on fields
  • Mapping land usage in areas with no information from the smallholder farmers about crops seeded on fields.

The approach is applied to cotton and others crops such as casava, rice and corn.

Augmented Reality for Raising Environmental Awareness

The objective of the DIVA project AURORA is to develop two modules:

  1. a web platform where Augmented Reality (AR) content (e.g., images and videos) can be uploaded for the education and awareness of the agriculture/agrofood community, and
  2. a mobile application that will visualize the AR content based on target images.

The goal of AURORA is to have a first simplified prototype of an Augmented Reality based system able to build dynamic scenarios for agriculture/agrofood and environmental awareness.

Buono per tutti (BxT) is an ethical business aiming at making the food system more sustainable and just by re-building and connecting local and regional food systems and communities. BxT is a local digital food hub (LDFH): a physical node providing a transparent direct-to-consumer digital, organizational and logistical platform for the aggregation, storage, distribution and delivery healthy and sustainable food from local small farmers to both end consumers (BtoC) and wholesale buyers (BtoB).

The core business of BxT are logistics and marketing, but it can also provide a modular implementation of different services such as:

1) Product services: activities aiming at adding value to the agricultural products as processingor other services as restaurant and catering;

2) Farmer services, as pre-season production planning, training and extensions

3) Community services, which are about engaging with the civic life of local communities by promoting food and waste education and social programs as food donation.

The potential of BxT is in the scaling-up: once the digital platform is online, other LDFH could be developed in any localities all around the world.
