The issue of forest wood certification was introduced 20 years ago to address concerns over deforestation, especially in the tropics. In last years, the interest towards forest certification has significantly grown. But this system appears open to frauds and expensive, both for Certification Bodies and for companies. The objective of this project, strongly supported by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Italy, aims to develop a feasibility study to assess the economic and technical feasibility of the integration of blockchain technology in the FSC certification process. In fact, currently, there aren’t any available solution capable of integrating blockchain technology in the timber certification process. In detail, the present proposal aims to: (i) collect and analyse data, costs and feedbacks of certification process with and without blockchain, (ii) look for technological partner, that can supply a blockchain easily adaptable for FSC certification needs and requirements.
