OSIMDIW project aims to design and manufacture an interferometric sensor based on optical fibre for
the in‐line detection of heavy metals ions in water. This sensor is characterized by its high sensitivity,
short response time, specificity, small size and relatively low production cost. In addition to these
characteristics, it can perform a continuous monitoring of water providing a real time measurement of
the concentration of different types of heavy metals. In this project two sensors will be developed for
the measurement of copper and lead concentrations in water.
